The "Learned, Liked, Lacked, Longed for" (sometimes also referred to as "Loved, Liked, Lacked") format provides a structured approach to gather feedback and insights from team members during a retrospective meeting in agile projects. Here's what each category represents:
1. Learned: This category focuses on the lessons and knowledge gained during the project iteration. Team members share what they have learned individually or collectively. It can include technical skills, domain knowledge, process improvements, or any other insights acquired throughout the project.
2. Liked (or Loved): This category encourages team members to express positive aspects or highlights of the project iteration. It allows participants to celebrate successes, acknowledge achievements, and recognize team members' contributions. It helps to identify what worked well and should be continued in future iterations.
3. Lacked: This category highlights the areas where the team felt there were deficiencies or shortcomings during the project iteration. It provides an opportunity to identify areas for improvement and discuss what was missing or could have been done better. This feedback can be related to resources, communication, collaboration, tools, or any other aspect that impacted the team's performance.
4. Longed for is an additional category that you can add to differentiate in more details, what the teams think would be useful to have. The "Learned, Liked, Lacked, Longed" retrospective format promotes open and constructive discussion within the team. It helps to identify both positive and negative aspects of the project iteration, fostering a continuous improvement mindset. By analyzing what was learned, what was liked, and what was lacking, teams can take actions to enhance their future work and increase their effectiveness.
During a retrospective, team members typically write their feedback on sticky notes. In the digital version with for instance Miro you can easily group those sticky notes in categories. And that is what we provide to you: a well-designed template for Miro or other online collaboration apps with exactly those categories in a visually enhanced way with vector-based and hand-drawn graphics.
